REVEREND HAITI

Reverend Haiti,
I have no prayers remaining.
My hope is beneath rubble;
my eyes see only trouble;
my voice is defeated;
my good water depleted.

I have no prayers remaining,
Reverend Haiti.
I cry on my sea
of death and debris;
my wounds need sutures;
my neighbors need futures.

My Lord saves souls
but does He save cities.
My God saves sinners
but does He save citizens.
My Lord saves the lost
but does He save the losers.
My God died and rose
but we die and rot.

Reverend Haiti,
I have no words remaining.
Can you spare a prayer?

I would be interested in hearing what Reverend Haiti might offer in response. Given that the poem refers to him honorifically as "Reverend," what reverence is relevant to the reality of the tragic events that have transpired there in Haiti? Reading the questions being put to Reverend Haiti, one notes a somewhat irreverant hostility in the questioner's theology. Does Reverend Haiti have something to say to address this?

Rumor has it that "Reverend Haiti" has responded. One wonder when that long-awaited response will ever be posted here?

Might Reverend Haiti's response be related to the call to Haitian President Préval's timely call to prayer? "President Préval of Haiti called his nation to 3 days of fasting and prayer in place of the regular Mardi Gras celebration." [see the video clip at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30rWm84z-zg]
